UdeM Exemption Scholarship for International Students 2026

Since the fall 2020 semester, the Université de Montréal (UdeM) has offered an Exemption Scholarship for international students. This program reduces the additional tuition normally charged to students from abroad and is intended to attract strong candidates to one of the leading francophone research universities. French citizens and francophone Belgian nationals are excluded. The scholarship has been renewed for the winter 2026, summer 2026, fall 2026, and winter 2027 terms, and the amounts listed below apply to the 2025-2026 academic year.

What is the UdeM Exemption Scholarship?

The UdeM exemption scholarship allows eligible international students admitted to a regular UdeM program to be exempted from part or all of the additional tuition fees charged to students from outside Canada. Its objective is to encourage talented students from around the world to study at UdeM and contribute to the diversity of the campus.

Introduced in 2020, the exemption has been renewed continuously. It applies to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels, with amounts that vary according to the level of study.

Eligibility criteria

The UdeM exemption scholarship is available to international students, excluding French citizens and francophone Belgians, who meet several conditions:

  • Admission offer: You must have received an admission offer to an eligible UdeM program.
  • Eligible program: You must enroll in a degree-granting program, meaning a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program. Short programs and non-degree studies are not eligible.
  • Status: You must hold a valid Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) and study permit for the entire duration of your program, and you must maintain full-time enrollment without interruption.
  • Other support: You must not benefit from another tuition exemption or from incompatible external funding.

If these conditions are not met, the university reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship.

Scholarship amounts

The amounts below are in Canadian dollars and correspond to full-time enrollment. The scholarship is deducted directly from tuition fees.

Level of study Tier/Type Amount per credit Amount per term (15 credits) Amount per year

How to obtain the UdeM exemption scholarship

  1. Submit an admission application: check the specific eligibility requirements of your chosen program and respect the admission deadlines.
  2. Monitor your file and receive an offer: after applying, you can track your application through the UdeM student centre and wait for your admission decision. There is no separate scholarship application, as UdeM automatically evaluates all new files.
  3. Receive confirmation: after accepting your admission offer, you will receive an email indicating whether you are eligible for the exemption and, if so, the amount awarded.
